Thomas W. Moffett

U.S. Veteran

Thomas W. Moffett, 81, of Cambridge, died Sunday (July 8, 2012) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge.

He was born February 1, 1931 in Cambridge, son of the late Charles J. Moffett and Hazel (McBride) Moffett.

Mr. Moffett retired as co-owner of the former Moffett Brothers Construction. He also worked as a welder for Central Ohio Coal for twenty-three years. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America.

He was Baptist by faith.

He was a 1950 graduate of Cambridge High School. He enjoyed family trips to Gatlinburg TN.

Mr. Moffett was a US Air Force veteran, having served during the Korean War and earning the rank of Staff Sergeant.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Moffett.

He is survived by his wife, Velva Jean (Barrowman) Moffett, whom he married November 17, 1950; three sons, Tom W. Moffett of Cambridge, Timothy Moffett of Amherst VA, and Jamiel Dane Moffett of Cambridge; three daughters, Cathryn King of New Concord, Kelley Moffett of Cambridge, and Jennifer (& Joseph) Hogue of Norwich; a brother, William (& Marjorie) Moffett of Cambridge; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will be held on Thursday (July 12, 2012) at 11 a.m.

Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge, with military graveside services conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
